I never did figure out the art connection with the restaurant but I thought the use of an artist's palate as a tray then menu was unique and kinda cute. I also don't quite get why the reviews for this place are so low. Sure, it caters mostly to an older crowd. But it seems they've been in the same spot for almost 40 years so it makes sense that their loyal fan base would be on the older side. I stopped in for breakfast and since I had eaten omelets, skillets, and country gravy several days prior, I was looking for something a bit healthier. My choice? Oatmeal with raisins. It was exactly like I make it at home. Not too thick and not too thin with plump and juicy raisins, butter and just the perfect amount of brown sugar. And at less than $5, I thought the price was juuuuuussssst right. The service was good, the prices right and the menu looked quite varied. I can't wait to come back for the hamburger steak and eggs with grilled onions and mushrooms. 8/15/14: Went back for the hamburger steak and eggs. While it wasn't the best I've ever had, it was pretty tasty. I couldn't believe it when the waitress remembered me. She said, "Oh you're the oatmeal gal." Of course, it seems the place is mostly frequented by regulars so seeing a new face would be a little easier to remember. You know the place is filled with regulars when she's pouring coffee and putting in breakfast orders as the people step out of their vehicles. And I discovered the art connection. When originally started it was an art gallery and you could buy local artist's painting from the walls.

Local, small business that makes you feel at home. I haven't been going to GG's for very long, but the few times I do go the food is always very good! The small menu makes since because it's a small restaurant, and I think that adds to the quality of the food they do have. They have the best blueberry pancakes I've ever tried simply because they use REAL berries, not that preservative crap they use at chain restaurants like Ihop and Sheri's. I've lived in Milwaukie all my life and I will continue to support my local small business, and this one is top notch!

I guess I may be spoiled on how good the Reuben sandwiches my restaurant made when I had it, with really good pastrami, piled high with house made winekraut, good Swiss cheese on Franz thick sliced rye bread, I haven't been able to find a Rueben that even comes close anywhere. I was really disappointed with GG's. $9.25 for a Reuben made with, what was close to cheap grocery store purchased pastrami, a small amount of sauerkraut that had little taste, on thin sliced so called deli rye bread. Also ordered a side of potato salad, $2.75 for a small bowl/portion that had way to much celery and not much taste once you got past the celery. The menu didn't offer many selections either and everything else looked over-priced. Won't return, there other deli type restaurants nearby that are not as over-priced for the portion of food and use quality ingredients in there menu items.

Meh, is right. Over priced, not very good food, and the ambiance is blah. I had the french dip and quite frankly the little sub shop down the way does a better one at a better price and with a smile!

The staff is so welcoming and the decor is "just like home" feeling. I've been in here a dozen times and have enjoyed every visit. That being said, I wish their menu items had a little more uniqueness to it. What you order is going to be exactly what you would expect, nothing special, nothing unique. It's predictable, but that's what GG's customers want. While I wish they had more fun with their recipes, I know what restaurants to go to if I want that type of breakfast, because GG's is a traditional breakfast. I've never tried their lunch, but their soups smell awesome in the late morning! Boringly predictable isn't bad. It's what keeps me coming back. In other words, GG's is like mom's cooking(, or at least my mom's. Sorry mom =^P): it's not going to win any awards, and her enchalada dish hasn't changed in 20 years, but you still can't wait to have it because, well, it's mom's predictable cooking =^)
